60 Cubic Meters of Waste Transported from Pluit Reservoir

The North Jakarta Water Agency's Waste Handling Unit (UPS) cleans the Pluit Reservoir, Penjaringan from waste and water hyacinth.

North Jakarta Water Agency's UPS Executing Unit Head, Chusaerie stated the waste in the Pluit Reservoir came from Pakin and Gendong rivers.

"Every day, we can pick up 60 cubic meters of waste that consist of household waste and water hyacinth," he expressed, Friday (5/12).

He explained the waste entered the Pluit Reservoir when the water discharge was high due to heavy rain. After being transported, the waste is then sorted before being disposed of at the Bantargebang TPST, Bekasi, West Java.

"Specifically for water hyacinth, we transport and place them in the biopore holes on the side of the reservoir," he added.

He urged residents to take an active role in keeping the reservoir clean by not littering.

"We keep urging residents to no longer throw garbage that causes pollution and reduces the function of reservoirs as flood controllers," he stated.
